Sports and Activities Update

Many families are aware that some changes recently happened with the MN State High School League regarding fall and winter sports.  Central Schools welcome these changes because we believe that students involved in activities help them in so many other ways.  Here is the reality for me as the Superintendent, there are many aspects of the MSHSL decision that are out of my control, for example, how many spectators are allowed to be in the stands or the number of games that get to be played.  What I am focusing on is what is in my control and how to bring the experience of an event to families.

Outdoor Events

Varsity outdoor events have a spectator capacity of 250.  Each team was given 125 tickets for their fans and players/participants were given priority.  Anyone entering the stadium needs to have a ticket and all others will be turned away.  That being said, anyone outside the fence (for example on 7th street) will be able to view events on Braun Field.  Additionally, most schools will be live streaming events.  Central’s details will be below.

JV and middle school football will not be ticketed at this time.  In the past we have not had over 250 spectators for these events.  We will have a counter at the gate and reevaluate if we need tickets after each game.  These events will not be streamed because we believe everyone will be able to attend in person.  These events will not be streamed as we anticipate enough space for all fans to attend in person.

Indoor Events

At this time, spectators are not allowed during volleyball games.  Honestly, this saddens me, but this is a decision that is out of my sphere of influence.  Please be assured that if guidance changes to allow fans, Central will take advantage of the rule change.  Central will be live streaming all home “B” Squad and Varsity Volleyball games and home “C” Squad and 7th and 8th grade games will be on a tape delay.

Streaming Information

We have created a Youtube channel to live stream many events.  You can click on the link here to bring you to the channel to subscribe, or you can watch our Facebook or follow us on Twitter @central_schools for the link to the event.  Tape delayed games will be posted within 24 hours after the event.

Additionally, because of a great partnership we have with the City of NYA, the cable access channel will be broadcasting our stream LIVE for home varsity football and home JV and varsity volleyball on Jaguar channel 901 or Mediacom channel 8 or 107.2.  Thank you city administrators for working with Central Schools to get this available for our families and friends.

What about away games?  Here is the comprehensive list of streaming services for away games.  Please note that these are not run by Central and some school districts have taken the approach to charge for some streaming services.

Please note that there is no limit to the Central Youtube streaming channel.  Share with your extended family.  I know grandparents, aunts and uncles, who are extended supporters of our children, are not able to be at games.  This is just a little touch to have them be a part of Central.

Lastly, over time you will see vast improvement with our streaming quality in the main high school gym.  Central will begin working with a company called HUDL which will have “ball tracking” technology and will allow our own student athletes to create their own highlight films and go back and watch games.  The Central Youtube channel will not change, but the video quality will. We anticipate this will be up and running by Thanksgiving.

If you have any questions regarding calendar development or athletics please contact me and I will answer your questions or get you in touch with the correct person if I don’t have them.
